Flourish Mental Health is a therapy practice devoted to ensuring that individuals receive the best care possible. We do this through hiring clinicians with exceptional training, using evidence-based practices that are individualized to each person's needs, and bringing warmth and compassion to every session.
Flourish is also a community of providers who support one another in our individual and collective journey to be the best practitioners we can be. Through consultation and collaboration, we ensure that we are adherent to evidence-based care, enhance one another's on-going learning, and each other's wellness.
At Flourish, we use evidenced-based practices to ensure that patients receive the best care possible. These are typically contemporary Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBTs) such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). This does not mean we parrot manuals or sound like robots! You remain at the center of the work- we seek to hear you, be present with you, and understand your story. From there, we can carefully weave together what the science tells us with your personal experience to help you heal and flourish.
• In order to provide the best and most effective care for our patients, we will utilize evidence based-treatments that have been shown to be effective through research and lead to real, lasting change.
• We will be accessible in a way that makes all of our patients feel welcomed and safe.
• We are inclusive of individuals of all identities. No matter the gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, or religion, all are equally welcomed and respected.
• We are committed to a consultation model of practice, which means were will collaborate to help one another be our best selves by being continual learners and by supporting one another in our quest for wellness.
• We will be transparent and authentic in our transactions, including policies, practices, and financial arrangements.
• We prioritize provider well-being in all that we do.
therapies we use
1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that focuses on identifying and changing distorted or unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. It operates on the principle that these thoughts shape our feelings and actions, and by learning to modify them, individuals can change how they feel and react to situations. The goal of CBT is to equip patients with practical coping skills and strategies to manage current problems and improve their daily functioning.
2. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an action-oriented approach that helps individuals stop avoiding or denying difficult inner emotions and instead accept them as appropriate responses to certain situations. It teaches practical mindfulness skills to change how a person interacts with their thoughts, rather than trying to change the thoughts themselves. The ultimate goal is to foster psychological flexibility, allowing individuals to clarify their personal values and take committed steps toward a rich and meaningful life, even in the presence of distress.
3. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is a specialized, structured program considered the first-line, non-medication treatment for chronic insomnia. It targets the unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that perpetuate sleep problems. Through techniques like sleep restriction, stimulus control, and cognitive restructuring, it helps individuals retrain their brain to associate the bed with sleep and develop long-term healthy sleep patterns.
4. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a structured, evidence-based psychological treatment specifically designed to help individuals recover from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) by focusing on how they think about their trauma. The therapy helps identify and challenge unhelpful beliefs, known as "stuck points," related to the traumatic event, such as self-blame or a damaged sense of safety or trust.
5. Prolonged Exposure (PE)
Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy is an evidence-based form of cognitive behavioral therapy specifically designed to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) by helping individuals gradually confront the memories and situations they have been avoiding. It involves two main components: repeatedly recounting the traumatic memory in a safe environment (imaginal exposure) and gradually facing real-life triggers or situations that are objectively safe but still cause distress (in vivo exposure).
6. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills (DBT Skills)
DBT skills are a core set of practical strategies taught within Dialectical Behavior Therapy to help individuals manage overwhelming emotions, reduce self-destructive behaviors, and navigate interpersonal conflicts more effectively. These skills are organized into four key modules: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. The ultimate goal is to equip individuals with concrete tools to build a life they consider worth living by balancing acceptance and change. Please note: we are not a full-model DBT program and do not offer individual DBT therapy at this time. We do, however, regularly incorporate DBT skills into therapy with our clients.
7. Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a person-centered, collaborative counseling style designed to help individuals resolve ambivalence and find their own internal motivation to change a specific behavior. Rather than imposing advice, a practitioner uses empathy and a guiding conversational style to elicit the person's own reasons for change, building their confidence and commitment. The goal is to empower the individual to take self-directed action toward their own values and goals, typically in areas like health or addiction recovery.
At Flourish, we often see people who are struggling with: anxiety, depression, trauma & post-traumatic stress disorder, insomnia, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, phobias, maternal mental health, parental stress, caregiver stress, substance use disorders, and difficulty with life transitions.
At Flourish, we are a team. You will have one therapist that knows you and your story, but you'll have access to the collective knowledge of our team. We regularly meet for consultation and didactic training. We know that our collective knowledge is better than that of each individual and hope that you feel the benefit of that too.
We do this by being in-network with insurance companies (NC State Health Plan, BCBS, Aetna, & Cigna/Evernorth) and filing claims on behalf of individuals using out-of-network benefits.
